Mike Flips, Nord1kone & Seize present "Life Cycles"
MUSIC FARMER 5 - Review by Adam Jones
A Metaphysical Journey Through the Rhythms of Existence
Today I had the pleasure of reviewing Mike Flips, Nord1kone & Seize's collaborative album "Life Cycles" - a musical storytelling that's deep yet casual - enlightened yet familiar. It's a narrative tour de force that delves into the complexities and simplicities of existence, intertwined with a pulsating boom bap backdrop that feels nostalgically vintage yet refreshingly avant-garde.
Listeners are immediately enveloped in the philosophical immersion of “The Business of Life”. The sonic portal opening with the tuning antenna is nothing short of genius, a prelude to a profound auditory journey. When the narrator cuts through, it strikes as a poignant reflection of the busy world we inhabit. The jazzy chords, the groove - it’s a setting sun on the horizon of hip-hop, casting a warm and inviting glow.
“Lows and Highs” takes that warmth and turns it into a fiery combustion of retro hip-hop energy. It's hard not to feel the reverberations of legends like the Beastie Boys and Eminem, yet there's an individuality that makes the track uniquely theirs. This energy is channeled yet again in “Better Days”, where El Da Sensei’s contribution is like a vintage wine perfectly pairing with the groove – classy, seasoned, and spirited.
The title track, “Life Cycles”, is a magnum opus within the album. The lo-fi aesthetic reminiscent of J Dilla envelops listeners in a comforting embrace. It’s haunting and mesmerizing, a celebration of the beauty and fleeting nature of existence.
"Knock Knock" is an auditory spectacle - space-age synths melding with earthy bass grooves, creating an otherworldly aura. "Throw Em Further" then takes us on a different trip, revisiting classic rock vibes while retaining the album's core hip-hop essence.
“Flow State”, a collaboration with The I.M.F., encapsulates the essence of "Life Cycles". It's raw, emotional, yet invigoratingly hopeful. The interplay of verses paints a vivid picture of life's vicissitudes while urging the importance of pushing forward.
As "All Over Again" plays out, the cyclical nature of life and the album is reinforced. A profound conclusion, it invites reflection and introspection.

The prodigious talents of Mike Flips and Seize shine brightly throughout the album. Mike Flips, with his UK flavor and love for a'capella samples, complements Seize's Australian laid-back dynamism, creating a cross-continental synergy that’s incredibly palpable.
