Of Vizions Takes Listeners Down the Rabbit Hole with Rock Epic 'Wonderland'

I had the privilege to review yet another epic track titled "Wonderland" from Of Vizions (the dynamic musical persona of Brandon Apgar) - a bold experimental symphony of love and desire. This song is a fascinating blend of electronic rock elements, adorned with vintage video game-inspired synthesizers, robust alt-rock guitars, and intensely powerful vocals.


"Wonderland" by Of Vizions is a potent mix of sound, feeling, and imagery, all skillfully woven together to portray an emotionally charged, romantic, and sensuous narrative. Starting off with a nostalgic nod to retro gaming, the 8-bit instrumental riffs are refreshingly unique and create an immersive electronic-rock soundscape. The opening sets the stage for an unexpected journey, a plunge into the depths of dark romance.


Apgar’s voice breaks into this soundscape with a fluid syncopated rhythm that elevates the track's initial mood. The vocal technique adds an energetic "rock" contrast that complements the retro vibes of the synthesizers. The lyrical tag, "You’re amazing, my very own Wonderland!" is a clear homage to the dizzying and bewildering effects of love and infatuation.


As the track builds towards the pre-chorus, it takes an exciting twist, adopting a wide and spacious harmony reminiscent of Owl City. This electronic-pop influence brings a sense of buoyancy and anticipation to the track, further enhancing the narrative's romantic intrigue.

The track's persistent backbone comes from its distorted guitars, which maintain a solid alt-rock foundation. The guitars' grit and power harmonize beautifully with the synthetic, retro soundscape, fusing together to form an auditory experience that is both vibrant and layered.


"Wonderland" concludes as it began, with the Nintendo-esque synth hook serving as the perfect bookend to an epic journey through a sonic landscape of love and desire. This closing loop creates a sense of completion, marking the end of a mesmerizing dive into a world of romance, mystery, and longing.
